Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla - The New College of Florida Mighty Banyans men's basketball team lost Saturday afternoon to a strong Flagler squad.
New College made the trip Saturday to St. Augustine for the second of their eight-game away streak. The team entered the weekend with the goal of building momentum following a tough stretch of games.
Their opponent, the Flagler Saints, are a tough NCAA Division II squad that entered the game following back-to-back home victories.
The Banyans opened the scoring with a layup off a nice pass from Zach Close. Schuyler Pimentel followed the make with back-to-back shots at the rim. He converted the first and drew a foul on the second, knocking down one of his two free throws.
Jack Scott drilled the Banyans' first three pointer of the night off a Malachi Pearson assist, making the score 14-16 with thirteen minutes remaining.
Flagler's offense found their stride midway through the period, taking their largest lead of the game with two minutes left.
Jordan Clark knocked down a pair of free throws to finish the half, where the Banyans trailed the 27-37.
Flagler went on a big run to open the second half, extending their lead to 20.
Jack Scott and Malachi Pearson scored on three consecutive possessions to get the Banyan offense going. Jackson Dawson drilled two jumpshots in a row with ten minutes remaining.
The New College offense struggled for the next five minutes, not scoring until Jack Scott knocked down a free throw with under five minutes left on the game clock.
Tyrone Smith and Alex Excellent scored the final two baskets of the game for New College, resulting in a 58-96 loss.
Jack Scott led the Banyans with 18 points, 2 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Jordan Clark and Malachi Pearson followed Scott in scoring, with 8 and 7 points respectively.
The Banyans now look to rebound against Florida Gulf Coast University on Tuesday Dec. 5, at 7 p.m.
