Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - The New College of Florida Mighty Banyans women's basketball game lost their matchup against St. Thomas (5-2) 68-35.
The Mighty Banyans (5-6) traveled to Miami Gardens following an impressive performance in a win over Beacon College. The Banyans and Bobcats matched up earlier this season, when the Bobcats beat the Banyans 47-102 in New College's first game in program history. The Banyans looked to improve off their last performance and add a major win over a future conference opponent.Â
The first quarter of action was a struggle for NCF. The Banyans scored only 4 points on the quarter, making 1 of the team's 10 field goal attempts. New College also turned the ball over six times in the quarter, leading to 19 points for the Bobcats.
The Banyan offense improved in the second quarter.
Rene Ahwal led a balanced attack with three points in the quarter. The St. Thomas offense continued to flourish, scoring 21 points on 57.1% form the field. The Cougars led 40-13 at the half.Â
 The Banyans had their best offensive quarter in the third. The Banyans scored 12 points on 40% shooting in the period. Their defense also improved, keeping St. Thomas to 41% shooting from the field, a 16% dip from their second quarter production.Â
The Mighty Banyans defense continued to up the intensity to begin the fourth quarter. The Banyans' guards shut down the Cougars' perimeter shooting, forcing tough jumpshots and holding St. Thomas to zero makes on 10 fourth quarter three pointers. The Cougars shot 3-16 overall in the final period, allowing the Banyans to win the quarter 10-8. Although the Banyans improved mightely, thier overall production was not enough to overcome a high powered Cougar offense, which won the game 68-35.Â
