SARASOTA, Fla. – New College Golf 2024-25 Season Review
New College Men's and Women's Golf finished their first seasons in the program's history on a strong note at the Sun Conference tournament. Both teams found a way to compete at the highest level and showcased their abilities to improve their play throughout the season.
The Men's golf season got off to a rocky start. The Banyans lost two of their first tournaments of the season due to Hurricanes Helene and Milton. This forced the Banyans off the course and delayed their season by two weeks.
This forced the team to dig deep and further prepare for the upcoming season.
The Banyans showcased this throughout the season. The team consistently improved on its scores throughout each tournament. This success culminated at the Sun Conference tournament. The team's average score of 310 was shattered in the final two rounds of the tournament. The Banyans shot their lowest round of the year, 300, in round two before setting another record low in the third and final round. The Banyans shot a 288 (even par) in the third and final round of the conference tournament.
This strong finish helped the Banyans finish their first season ranked No. 93 in the national poll. With all 5 starters returning, the Banyans have high hopes for the future.
The Women's Golf team showed amazing commitment and resiliency throughout its first season as a competing program. Despite having only the minimum number of athletes available, the team pushed through the season, improving its scores and tournament finishes as the year progressed.
Their best finish came at the Shenandoah Invitational. The Banyans finished in second place overall, with
Rebecca Luchs finishing at the top of the leader board for her first win in her Banyan career. Luchs led the way for the Banyans, finishing the season with an average score of 81.8.
Head Coach
Judy Carlson spoke about the excitement she has about the program moving forward. "We think we are building something special here. These girls dealt with so much adversity this season, but they stood tall together and faced it all head-on. I think we have a group with some serious potential, and I think we are only going to improve with time."
The Mighty Banyans will be back in action next fall.
