SARASOTA, Fla. - New College women's soccer came away with a big win over Toccoa Falls (6-3) in their first home match in program history.
The Banyans (2-5-1) opened the game with strong defensive play. The Banyans kept strong possession of the ball, holding the Screaming Eagles to one shot in the first half.
The Banyans offense struggled in the opening frame. New College missed on passing opportunities, leading to only one shot in the half, which missed wide.
After a 0-0 first half, both teams came out looking to take over in the second. The Banyans started with three shots on goal, lifting the offense's spirits and providing key pressure on the Screaming Eagle defense.
Toccoa Falls showcased their counter-attacking skills in the second half, narrowly missing two goal scoring opportunities.
The tie was broken in the 75th minute, when New College of Florida forward
Nicola Taylor capitalized in a one-on-one situation against the Screaming Eagles goalie.
Ellie Shurman supplied the go-ahead assist.
The Banyans are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 18, when they travel to Ave Maria University.
