SARASOTA, Fla. — New College of Florida men's soccer (7-3-1) defeated the Atlantis University Atlanteans (3-2-1) in a 4-1 shootout on Tuesday.
The Banyans began the match in dramatic fashion, opening the scoring 22 seconds in when
Kais Sabic found
Peter Simmons in the box for an easy tap-in. Simmons struck again moments later, scoring off a stellar pass from Gian-Karlo Kama and extending New College's lead to 2-0.
New College would strike again in the 25th minute when Gian-Carlo Kama scored on a well-placed ball into the corner of the net.
Atlantis responded with their own goal off a deflection, taking the game into the half with the Banyans leading 3-1.
The Banyans came out firing again in the second. Sebastian Pedraza and
Randy Otoo dominated the game defensively, stopping multiple Atlantean attacking runs and keeping possession in the Banyan's favor.
Shamour Mclean and
Roy Quest were steady in the midfield and provided the Banyans with multiple opportunities that just missed their mark.
Valerio Tatafiore provided a fourth New College goal in the 54th minute.
Matthew Wilcox was sure-handed in front of goal with 4 saves in the second half.
New College won the game 4-1, staying undefeated at home and improving their record to 7-3-1 on the season.

The early advantage allowed us to assert control over the game. Despite facing challenges in the second half, our team exhibited remarkable character and maturity in managing the game and securing the win. A truly outstanding performance from our squad."
Men's soccer will be back in action this Saturday, Oct. 21, when they travel to Jacksonville to play Trinity Baptist.
