Box Score SARASOTA, Fla. - New College men's basketball topped Beacon College 83-63 in their exciting home opener.
The New College of Florida Mighty Banyans came back in the second half to defeat Beacon College 83-63 for their first win in program history.
The Blazers started off the game in control. Their physical defense held the Banyans to four points through the first five minutes. New College was forced to take a timeout at the 17-minute mark with Beacon up 9-4.
Schuyler Pimentel subbed on and provided an immediate spark. Pimentel rebounded a miss and scored on his first possession, getting the energy back on the Banyans side.
Giovanni Toscanini and
Jared Carter brought the Banyans back within one with back-to-back buckets.
The Blazers responded with a quick 5-0 run, putting the Banyans back on the defensive.
Jack Scott paced the Banyans in the first half, scoring 10 points and grabbing 3 rebounds.
The second half was a completely different story for New College.
Jordan Clark went on a tear in the second half, scoring 16 points on 70% shooting from the field and 50% from three.
Shawn Lefresne and Quincy Snoddy, Jr. both scored 6 points.
New College scored 46 points in the second half while holding Beacon to 21, flipping the tides in the Banyan's favor.
The Mighty Banyans finished the game strong, winning their first game with a final score of 83-63.
Jordan Clark scored 23 points on the night, while also recording 3 rebounds and 2 assists.
Jack Scott and
Schuyler Pimentel also finished in double figures.
Head Coach Andrew Wingreen had this to say about his team's first win: "We got off to a really slow start yesterday, but I was proud of the way our guys responded during the half. They were fired up in the second half and executed our game plan well. It's awesome to get our first win in program history, and we're ready to continue building our culture for the future."
The Banyans are back in action on Nov. 11, when they will play Thomas University.
