SARASOTA, Fla. – New College men's soccer picked up a thrilling 3-2 victory over Florida College for first win in program history.
The Mighty Banyans (1-0) looked strong in the opening frame, taking a 2-0 lead into halftime. The second half proved to be a good challenge for the Banyans. Florida College found success quickly, scoring an early goal and putting pressure on the home team. The Banyans responded, scoring another goal in the second half and showing strong defensive play to the finish, resulting in a 3-2 victory.
Junior Shamour Mclean found the back of the net early, scoring the game's first goal.
Freshman Kais Sabic had a stellar night, scoring in both the first and second half.
Florida College (1-2) looked strong on the offensive side of the ball, tallying 4 shots in the first half of play.
The Falcons continued this play into the second half, adding three more shots on goal and scoring twice.
The Might Banyans combated the Falcons' high powered offense with stellar goalkeeping by Matthew Wilcox, who finished the match with 11 saves.
Jaheim Dewar and Valerio Tatafiore assisted goals for the Banyans.
Head Coach Glodi Konga left a message for the team and fans following the victory. "Our theme this week has been, 'We need to keep pushing,' and we knew today was our day. I'm super proud of the guys, and super proud of everyone that came out. Thank you for your support, and I am grateful to be here and continue to build an excellent program here at NCF."
The Banyans now look forward to Sept. 9, when they host United International at Robert L. Taylor Center.
