BANYANS LOSE IN OT AT BOB JONES UNIVERSITY

GREENVILLE, SC. - The Mighty Banyan's women's basketball team lost 76-79 in their second game of a back to back against Bob Jones University.

The Banyan's (5-11) struggled in the opening frame. The Banyan's defense struggled to deal with the Bruins offense, which connected on 50% of their field goals in the first quarter. The Bruin's also had it dialed in from three, knocking down 4 of their 5 three point attempts. The New College offense struggled to keep up with Bob Jones, taking them into the second quarter trailing 23-14. 

The Banyan's improved their play in the second quarter. Gwen Tsoukalas and Aaliyah Hill both connected on three point attempts, sparking a New College run. The Banyan's also converted at the free throw line, shooting a perfect 100% from the line in the first half. New College's offensive improvements helped eliminate the Bruin's lead, making it an eleven point game going into the half. 

New College continued to impress in the second half. Jadyn Lattimore and Tatiana Jackson could not be stopped at the rim. Lattimore scored 8 points on 4-6 shooting, with Jackson adding in 6 points and 2 steals. 

The Banyan offense knocked down 11 of their 18 shots and outscoring Bob Jones 24-19 in the third quarter. 

New College's offense continued to dominate into the fourth quarter. Gwen Tsoukalas followed up an impressive Friday night with another strong display, scoring 6 points in the fourth quarter, bringing her total to 14 for the game. The Banyan;s defense held Bob Jones to 41.7% shooting in the fourth quarter, helping New College come back and tie the game at the end of the fourth quarter. 

Both New College and Bob Jones struggled to convert on the offensive end in overtime. Sierra Moore scored 5 of the Banyan's 6 overtime points, with Tatiana Jackson knocking down one of her four free throws. While New College held Bob Jones to 1-7 field goals in overtime, Bob Jones knocked down all 6 of their free throws, regaining their lead and winning the game 79-76. 

Jadyn Lattimore, Tatiana Jackson, Sierra Moore, Franchesca Derilus, and Gwen Tsoukalas all finished in double figures. 

The Mighty Banyan's are back in action on Tues. Jan 23 at St. Thomas.
