BRADENTON, Fla - New College women's volleyball pulled off a comeback victory on the road against the Florida Memorial Lions, improving to a 3-4 conference record.
Following a loss to Keiser, the Banyans were eager to get back into the win column against a Florida Memorial team that they previously dealt with in September, a home matchup where New College emerged with a 3-0 victory. Despite getting swept in their first meeting, the Lions imposed their will early on, winning the first two sets 28-26 and 25-20.
In set three, down 7-5 early, the Banyans jump-started their offense with an electric eight point run led by Rafaeloa Domingos. The revitalized New College team refused to give up the lead for the remainder of the set, beginning the comeback attempt with a 25-20 set three victory.
The dominant set three performance rolled over into the next series, as the Banyans maintained a healthy lead for the entire 25-18 fourth set to tie the match 2-2. In the fifth set to 15, Florida Memorial had their opponent on the ropes going up 12-9, but a New College timeout seemingly gave the Banyans just what they needed to mount a five point run that would aid in a 15-13 set five and match victory.
Leading the team in kills was
Cassidy Casey with 20. Right behind Casey was
Luisa Hoffman who recorded 17. Assisting almost all of those kills was
Rafaela Domingos, the team's assist leader on the season continued to shine with 61 assists on the day.
"Rafa (Domingos) and I's chemistry is based on our trust in one another," Casey remarked when asked about her setter, "wherever the pass brings her I know she'll find me… The job she's done for us this season so far is phenomenal."
Following the victory the Banyans will stay on the road to face off against Webber International University on October 26th.
