BRADENTON, Fla. - New College men's basketball continued their hot start to the season with a pair of home wins against the Beacon College Blazers and the Trinity Baptist College Eagles.
The Banyans were 4-1 entering the doubleheader weekend and eager to continue their push toward Sun Conference play.
Similarly to their women's basketball counterpart, New College won both of their weekend home games, taking a 86-60 Â victory over Beacon College as well as a 77-67 win over Trinity Baptist.
In Friday's game against the Blazers, the Banyans exited the first half with a 42-30 lead that they would refuse to give up for the rest of the game. Leading the offensive attack was
Charlie Yoder with 24 points on the afternoon. Yoder also led his team with seven assists, and went 7-7 at the free throw line. New College complimented their offensive might with a stout defense, scoring 28 of their 86 points off turnovers.Â
The Banyans got stuck in the mud offensively in Saturday's match-up against Trinity Baptist, but their defense did enough to keep the Eagles at an arms length to seal the game. New College did most of their damage in the paint, putting up 32 points from close range. Yoder was once again the points leader putting up 19. The Banyans were able to manage the glass with help from
