Bradenton, Fla. - Mighty Banyans fall at home to Florida Memorial
New College women's basketball dropped their second conference match up in a row in a loss to Florida Memorial.Â
The Banyans got off to a plodding start on the offensive end. New College shot an impressive 54% from the field and 50% from three in the quarter, but turnovers limited the Banyans offensive potential. The Banyans turned the ball over 9 times in the first quarter, helping the Lions attempt 8 shots more than the Banyans in the quarter. This shot differential propelled Florida Memorial to a 12-point lead at the quarter break.Â
The Banyans were better in the second quarter but struggled to diminish the Lion lead. The Banyans entered the halfway mark trailing 42-30.Â
The second half was much of the same story. Florida Memorial had another impressive quarter, scoring 27 points on efficient shooting. The Banyans struggles continued, as they mounted only 23 points in the entirety of the second half.Â
New College's momentum never amounted to a comeback, as the Banyans fell 87-53 at home.Â
Halle Shelt and Gwen Tsoukalas led the Banyans in scoring, with each player recording 14 points in the contest.Â
The Banyans will be back after Thanksgiving break when they travel to Florida Gulf Coast for an exhibition match up on Dec 4.Â
