MIGHTY BANYANS FALL IN OT TO NO. 17 HUNTINGTON

BRADENTON, Fla. – New College men's basketball falls in overtime vs NAIA No. 17 Huntington University (IN).

New College men's basketball hosted one of the top teams in the country in Huntington University (IN) for their final match up before Christmas.

The Foresters traveled to Florida with an impressive 9-2 record, boasting one of the top offenses in the country being led by the nation's second-leading scorer.

The Banyans welcomed the challenge and got off to a fantastic start.

Senior Charlie Yoder paced the Banyan offense in the first half. Playing against a familiar foe, Yoder utilized his change of pace and decision-making to carve through the Forester defense.

Yoder's scoring kept the Banyans within striking distance, as New College kept up with the Forester offense while playing some inspired defense.

The Banyans first-half efforts helped them enter the break with a 5-point deficit, leaving them with plenty of room to grow in the second half.

The Banyans, led by Jordan Clark, did just that in half number two.

Clark was sensational in the second period, slicing his way through driving lanes and ball screens to generate easy points. Clark also made his mark in transition, as the Banyans forced six turnovers throughout the game.

New College stayed right with Huntington, keeping the game within possession into the final moments.

Trailing by six with 1:32 remaining, Ben Walker and Diego Eslava showed up for the Banyans. The duo knocked down a pair of three-pointers to tie the game in the final seconds, sending the Banyans and Foresters into overtime in exciting fashion.

The overtime period only built off the momentum of the second half.

The Foresters got off to a better start in the final period, claiming the lead early.

Diego Eslava kept the Banyans in the ballgame, nailing a three with under a minute remaining to bring the Banyans within three.

However, New College's luck ran out, as late turnovers derailed the comeback as Huntington closed the game out to win 80-77.

Jordan Clark led the Banyans on offense, scoring 21 points and recording 5 rebounds and 6 assists.

Diego Eslava and Charlie Yoder combined for 37 points on offense, knocking down 4 of their 11 combined three-point attempts.

New College assistant coach Drew Lutz had this to say after the game. "I was really proud of our guys. They played hard and went to overtime with a talented and experienced Huntington team. We need to clean up some things in late-game scenarios so we can finish these types of games, but we are all very encouraged heading into the break with the direction we are headed."

The Banyans will be back in action on Dec 29 for a match up at Fort Lauderdale.
