LANDEN MORRISON WALK OFF DINGER HELPS NCF WIN ONE IN SERIES AGAINST UNITED INTERNATIONAL

BRANDENTON, Fla. - The Mighty Banyan Baseball team was victorious in game two of their weekend series against United International thanks to a Walk off home run from center fielder Landen Morrison

After dropping game one of the series in a dramatic nine inning showdown, The Mighty Banyans responded with an exciting win in game two.

The New College offense was on a role in the first inning. Jesus Fortis and Landen Morrison both walked to begin the inning. Fortis and Morrison both made an attempt to steal Matt Tinder at the plate. A throwing error by the Eagle Ray's catcher helped Fortis reach home plate for the games first run of the game. With Morrison on third, Matt Tinder reached first on a walk, setting up another steal attempt. Another miss-throw on the Eagle Rays part helped Morrison score, putting the Banyans up 2-0 with no outs.

The Banyans put up another two runs to end the inning courtesy of a single to left field from Rylan Jomisko

United International fought back, putting up 5 runs to take the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. Trailing by 1, Landen Morrison reached base on an error by the Eagle Rays shortstop. Matt Tinder followed Morrison with a single, setting up John McIntosh with two runners on. McIntosh delivered with a single into right field, scoring two runs and putting the Banyans ahead.

With both teams scoring an additional run, the Banyans and Eagle Rays were deadlocked at 7 heading into the bottom of the ninth. With the extra inning rules in play, the Banyans got to begin the ninth with a runner on second base. Jesus Fortis stepped up to the plate and delivered, driving a hard hit ball into center field. The Banyans lead runner tore around third base, but an impressive throw from center beat the runner home, keeping the Eagle Rays in the game. WIth one out and one on base, Landen Morrison stepped up to the plate. Morrison took pitch one and two of the at-bat, settling into his rhythm. A third pitch fastball was all Morrison needed to see to send the Banyans home victorious. Morrison turned on a fastball, sending the ball deep over the right field fence. The Banyan dugout erupted as Morrison ran the base path, meeting Morrison at home plate to celebrate the victory.

New College of Florida had many stand out performances over the weekend.

Landen Morrison batted .500 on the series, tallying three extra-base hits with a home run and 6 RBI.

Jesus Fortis reached base in each game, scoring 8 runs with 3 hits.

Rylan Jomisko had 6 hits, including his first home run of the season.

The Banyans are back in action on Tuesday, Feb 13 at Florida Southwestern State.
