BRADENTON, Fla. - The New College of Florida Mighty Banyan baseball team fell short against Ave Maria Wednesday afternoon.
The Banyans (4-6) struggled to keep up with the high powered Gyrenes offense. The Ave Maria offense was rolling in the early innings of the game. The Gyrenes scored 5 runs in the first four innings of action. The Mighty Banyan offense struggled to keep up.
Rylan Jomisko drove in the Banyans first run of the game in the third inning. Jomisko drove a deep fly ball out to right field. The ball traveled far enough to drive in
Jesus Fortis from third, giving Jomisko the sacrifice fly.
The Banyans scored another two runs in the fifth inning.
Landen Morrison and
John McIntosh scored in fifth inning, crossing the plate on walks with the bases loaded.
The Mighty Banyans were not able to capitalize after the fifth inning. After going hit-less in the sixth and seventh innings, Adrian Quinones singled to right field. The Banyans were not able to drive in Quinones, leaving the runner stranded in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Banyans couldn't get anything going in the ninth inning. The Gyrene offense was too much for New College, ultimately pulling away to a 9-3 victory.
Rylan Jomisko and
Matt Tinder both drove in runs for New College.
Jesus Fortis and
Landen Morrison both went 1-4 on the afternoon with one run scored.
The Mighty Banyans are back in action on Friday, Feb 23 when they begin their weekend series at Trinity Baptist College.
