BRADENTON, Fla. - The Mighty Banyans baseball team picked up a big win over Minnesota Post Grad Tuesday afternoon.
The Banyans offense was hot to start out the afternoon.
John McIntosh and
Matthew Merk tripled to open the game, putting the Banyans up early in the first. The Banyans scored another run via a bases load walk to end the first, giving New College a 3-0 lead to begin the second. The Banyans added two more runs in the second inning, with the first coming on a bases loaded walk and the second on a Matthew Garcia single.
The Banyan offense continued to roll.
Chris Bradburn scored on a error from the MPG shortstop, which also advanced Banyan shortstop
Jesus Fortis to third base. Fortis scored later in the inning on a ground-out, giving the Banyans a 7-0 lead.
The Banyans scored again in the fifth inning, going up 8-0 heading into the back half of the game.
The Mighty Banyan pitching began to struggle in the top of the sixth inning. The Banyans gave up 5 runs in the inning, helping Minnesota Post-Grad fight their way back into the ballgame.
The Banyans regrouped, maintaining their lead and pulling away to a 11-5 win.
John McIntosh led NCF offensively, going 3-4 on the afternoon with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI.
Matthew Garcia went 3-4 with one RBI and one run.
