BRADENTON, Fla. - The Mighty Banyan's baseball team split their series against Oklahoma Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.
Following a thrilling opening day victory over IMG Academy at LECOM Park, the Banyan's returned to action against a talented Oklahoma Wesleyan squad.
Landen Morrison got the Banyan offense going in the first. Morrison drove a hard hit ball out to right field, turning past first he sped to second base, nabbing the first double for New College on the day. Matt Tinder followed suit with a walk, setting up
Rylan Jomisko with two runners on. Jomisko drove a line drive through the middle infield, bringing Morrison home from second and giving New College a 1-0 lead.
Oklahoma Wesleyan answered back in the second inning, scoring two runs on a pair of singles. Now trailing, the NCF offense rallied in the third inning. Matt Tinder,
Rylan Jomisko and Brennan Peterson all reached base on walks, forcing OKWU to head ot the bullpen. Following the pitching change,
Avery Bishop drove a ball into right field, bringing Tinder and Peterson home.
Matthew Merk continued the run, driving the ball up the middle of the infield for a single, scoring Rivera-Calderon. With the bases full,
Landen Morrison connected on a hard hit ball to right field, reaching third base and scoring 3 Banyan base runners. The Banyan's 7 run third inning helped them pull away to an 8-2 lead.
New College would add two more runs in the sixth. Morrison and Tinder both singled, bringing up Brennen Peterson with runners on second and third. Peterson drilled a ball out to center field, scoring both runners and giving the Banyan's a 10-4 lead.
New College held on to the lead through 7 innings, winning game one with a final score of 10-7.
Anthony Barrios picked up his first win of the season, going 4 innings with 3 K's and 4 earned runs.
The Banyan bats cooled down in game two. After allowing 5 runs through the first two frames, the NCF offense scored their first run of the game on a Josh McIntosh single. The Banyan offense rallied to score two more runs in the third, chipping away at the OKWU lead. The New College offense could not regather their momentum, going hit less in the fourth and fifth inning. Trailing 12-3 entering the bottom of the sixth, Josh McIntosh came around to score on a ground out. This would be the final Banyan run for the day, sealing a 12-4 loss in game two.
Landen Morrison led New College batting 4-7 with a triple and 3 RBI.
