NEW COLLEGE BASEBALL SUFFERS DEFEAT TO MINNESOTA CROOKSTON

SARASOTA, Fla.- The New College of Florida Mighty Banyans struggled in a 13-0 loss to Minnesota Crookston.

The Banyan offense got off to a slow start. Banyans right fielder Rylan Jomisko singled to open the afternoon for NCF. Landen Morrison, John McIntosh, and Matt Merk were all retired, stranding Jomisko on base and keeping the score 1-0 heading into the second inning.

The Golden Eagle offense got going in the second inning. They scored their first run of the inning on a double to left field. Minnesota Crookston continued to drive in runs, scoring 2 runs on a hard-hit ball to deep left center field. The Banyans struggled to put the ball in play. The Golden Eagle's pitching staff held New College to just one hit through the first three innings of action.

Matthew MacGregor came in to pitch in the fourth inning for New College. MacGregor impressed, getting the first three batters of the inning out and slowing down the Golden Eagle offense.

Brennan Peterson and Gabriel Rangel broke the hit-less streak in the bottom of the fifth inning. Peterson singled to lead off the inning. Rangel advanced Peterson to second on a single up the middle. Avery Bishop came to the plate looking to drive in NCF's first run, but flew out to center to end the inning.

Rylan Jomisko led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a rocket to deep center field, advancing to second base and giving NCF a runner in scoring position. A deep pop-out to right field advanced Jomisko to third, bringing John McIntosh up looking to drive in a run. McIntosh drew a walk, bringing up Banyans catcher Matt Merk with two runners on. Merk just missed on a fastball, popping out to center field for the second out of the inning. Brennen Peterson popped out to right field, ending the inning and stranding two runners on base.

The Banyans pitching staff fell into a rough patch in the eighth inning. The Banyans combined to walk 7 batters in the frame, giving up 5 runs to make the deficit 13-0.

The Golden Eagles held their advantage through the final out of the game, winning the match up 13-0.
