SARASOTA, Fla. - Mighty Banyans pick up sweep over Trinity Baptist College.
The Banyans offense got off to a great start.
Tiffany Lepic and
Madison Garcia both walked to begin the inning. Madi Dutton stepped up to the plate and crushed a long home run over the center field fence, putting the Banyans up 3-0 in the first inning.
Madelyn Dutton started game one on the mound and impressed to begin the afternoon. Dutton began her day with two scoreless first innings, striking out two batters. Dutton continued her strong play on the mound in the third inning, retiring all three batters and keeping the Banyans ahead 3-0.
The Banyan bats exploded in the third inning. Jalyssa Nedesma doubled to center field, scoring Waters, Garcia, and Dutton. Lily Urbina doubled after an Ella Krascewski single, scoring two more Banyan runs.
The Banyans offense scored 6 runs in the third, extending their lead to 9-0 heading into the fourth inning.
The Banyans added on another two runs in the fourth inning on an error by the Eagle shortstop, extending their lead to double-figures.
Madi Dutton maintained the Banyans lead on the mound, helping New College capture an 11-0 victory in game one.
Ella Krascewski started game two on the mound for New College. Both teams pitched well in the opening frame, allowing no base runners in the first.
Tiffany Lepic recorded her first home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth inning. Lepic drove a hard hit ball into left field. A mistake by the left fielder helped Lepic round third and reach home plate, extending the Banyans lead to two.
Jayleigh Totten helped close the game on the mound for New College, throwing 4 scoreless innings en route to a save and a victory.
Madi Dutton had a fantastic day at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a home run and 4 RBI.
Tiffany Lepic went 2 for 4 from the plate, with one home run and 2 RBI.
Jayleigh Totten picked up an impressive same in game two, pitching 5 innings and striking out 5 batters.
The Mighty Banyans are back in action on Tuesday, March 19 for a doubleheader at Edward Waters.
