SARASOTA, Fla – New College softball takes both games in double-header vs Fort Lauderdale in walk-off fashion.
The New College of Florida softball team captured a close 1-0 victory in game one of their doubleheader against The University of Fort Lauderdale.
Both teams pitching staff got out to a hot start. Madi Dutton got the start for New College and excelled. Dutton through all seven innings, giving up 5 this and striking out 7 Eagle batters. Dutton's excellence on the mound kept New College throughout the afternoon.
The New College bats were slow out the gate.
Madison Garcia get on base in the first with a single up the middle.
Tiffany Lepic collected the second Banyan hit in the bottom of the fourth inning, singling past the shortstop.
The Banyans offense came alive in the seventh and final inning. Madi Dutton led off the inning with a triple to right field, setting up Jalyssa Nedesma with the winning run on third. Jalyssa Nedesma came through, flying the ball into deep left field and bringing home Dutton for the win.
Madi Dutton showcased her prowess on both sides of the ball in game one, pitching to a complete game shut-out and going 1 for 3 with a triple and a run.
The Banyans continued their success in game two. NCF scored 3 quick runs in the first inning.
Madison Garcia drove in
Ke'Asia Waters on a single to get the scoring started. Ella Krascewski drove in two more runs to end the inning, scoring
Madison Garcia and Madi Dutton.
Madison Garcia drove in another run in the bottom of the second inning, extending the Bayan lead to 4.
The Eagles offense got going in the fifth inning. Three straight singles helped the Eagles score 3 runs, bringing the Banyan lead to just one. The Eagles tied the game in the top of the seventh inning, setting the Banyans up with yet another walk-off opportunity.
Madi Dutton delivered. After a clutch full count walk from
Tiffany Lepic, Madi Dutton came to the plate and crushed a ball to deep left field. The ball easily cleared the fence, scoring both runners in walk off fashion.
Madison Mendoza was great on the mound in game two. Mendoza pitched 4.2 innings, giving up 3 runs and striking out one batter.
Madi Dutton was the hero again for New College, hitting the game winning home run and pitching 2.1 innings with 2 strikeouts.
The Banyans look to continue their winning ways on Tues, April 7 at Fort Lauderdale.
