SARASOTA, Fla. – NCF baseball splits Saturday doubleheader vs Fort Lauderdale.
Both teams pitching staffs got out to a good start in game one. Banyan starter
Owen McKinley threw a scoreless first inning, striking out one batter.
Brennan Peterson batted in the lead-off spot for NCF and reached base safely on a hit-by-pitch. Peterson was caught trying to steal second base, ending the inning.
McKinley followed up his first inning with another impressive showing in the second. McKinley struck out the first two batters of the inning, before forcing a fly-out to deep center field to bring the Banyan offense back to the plate. The Eagles pitching staff continued to keep New College at bay, retiring all three Banyan batters to move to the third.
Avery Bishop singled in the bottom of the fourth inning to advance
Rylan Jomisko to second, but the inning ended after Bishop was picked off at first base.
Owen McKinley continued to execute on the mound, allowing three hits with no runs through the first four innings.
The Banyan offense got on the board in the fifth inning. Brennan Peterson drilled a sacrifice fly to deep center field, scoring
Chris Bradburn for the teams first run.
John McIntosh drove in
Michael Magliocca later in the inning, giving the Banyans a one run lead.
Owen McKinley came through for New College. The Freshman pitched all 7 innings, allowing 1 run and collecting 7 strikeouts in route to a complete game shut-out.
John McIntosh led the way offensively, going 1 for 3 from the plate with an RBI.
Matthew MacGregor got the start on the mound in game two. The Eagle bats were hot in the first inning. Two singles and a three-run shot helped Fort Lauderdale jump out to an early 5-0 lead.
The Banyan offense responded in the bottom of the inning.
Matthew Merk singled to score
John McIntosh and Brennan Peterson, bringing the lead to 3.
Rylan Jomisko tripled to deep right field, scoring Merk and giving the Banyans another opportunity with runners in scoring position.
Mathew Garcia drove in Jomisko for the final run of the inning, with the Banyans now back in the ball game trailing 4-5.
Fort Lauderdale added another three runs in the second inning, putting the Banyans in another tough situation.
New College scored again in the fifth inning.
JT Leanos drove a hard-hit double to left field, bringing home
Rylan Jomisko for his second run of the game.
The Eagles continued to barrel the ball, scoring another two runs in the seventh to go up 10-5.
Alexander Bairan drove in a run in the bottom of the seventh, but the Banyans were unable to make up the difference, ultimately falling in game two with a final score of 10-6.
Rylan Jomisko was great at the plate in game two, recording two hits and scoring two runs.
JT Leanos got a knock in three of his four plate appearances.
Logan O'Donnell made an appearance and pitched well, recording two strikeouts in two innings.
The Banyans are back in action on Wed, April 3 in Lauderhill for a rematch against Fort Lauderdale.
