LAKELAND, Fla. – New College of Florida Baseball scored 2 runs in a competitive game against NAIA No. 1 Southeastern.

The Banyans looked good to open the game. New College took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. John McIntosh drove in the Banyans first run. McIntosh singled to right field, scoring Gabriel Rangel and advancing Brennan Peterson to third base. Michael Magliocca added another run in the first, driving in Gabriel Rangel on a ground out to the Fire short-stop.

The Banyans and Fire were stuck in a close game up to the bottom of the third inning. Southeastern drove in three on a home run to deep left field, giving them a 5-2 lead.

Southeastern hit their stride in the fifth. The Fire added 4 runs in the bottom half of the inning, extending their lead to 7.

The Banyan offense was unable to generate more opportunities late in the game, going scoreless through the final 7 innings in a 12-2 loss.

John McIntosh had a good day at the plate. McIntosh got a hit in 1 of his 3 plate appearances and driving in one RBI.

Gabriel Rangel and Matthew Merk both recorded hits on the afternoon, with Rangel scoring a run in the first.

Brennan Peterson scored one run and recorded a walk in two plate appearances.

The Mighty Banyans are back in action on Fri. April 16 at home against Lighthouse Christian College.
