FUTURE BANYANS COMPETE IN NJCAA BEACH VOLLEYBALL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

SARASOTA, Fla. – Future Banyans finish third in NJCAA Beach Volleyball National Championships.

Several incoming Mighty Banyans represented their current colleges at the NJCAA National Championships this past weekend at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Alabama.

Kayla Gentry and Amanda Pizzol, sophomores from State College of Florida and Jayden Ponsford, a sophomore from Lake Sumter State College, all represented with strong showings and final four standings.

Kayla Gentry and her partner Rhea Kohl entered the tournament following an undefeated regular season. While Kayla and Rhea suffered their first defeat of the season in tournament play, the duo secured an impressive third place finish.

New College Volleyball head coach Lynn Burnett had this to say about her incoming talents.

"I had the privilege of coaching Amanda and her partner Teresa Briefeneder and Kayla Gentry and her partner Rhea Kohl over the past two years prior to my transition to New College of Florida.  I have watched them this entire spring season with much pride. They each show tremendous passion, grit and determination as well as strong leadership and teamwork.  Rhea will be transferring to Grand Canyon University next year and I am proud of her achievements academically, athletically, mentally and physically.  She will be one to watch for sure!  As for Kayla and Amanda - I couldn't be more excited for the opportunity to continue as their coach and expect great things for them and our team as we head into our inaugural season next year!"
