Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Austin Klokus

BANYANS FALL TO SCAD IN HOME LOSS

New College women's soccer fell to the SCAD Bees in a 2-1 contest as they move to 0-2 on the season.

After facing Keiser University, one of the toughest teams in the country, the week prior, the schedule would not get any easier for the Banyans, who were back home for their match-up against the 4-1 Bees.

Both teams started strong in the first half, with the two squads exchanging shots on goal with an even time of possession. The Bees would be the ones to strike first, as SCAD found the only goal of the first half with 25 minutes left on the clock. The Banyan offensive attack slowed down as the game progressed, but solid defensive play kept the game within a goal entering halftime.

The second half opened with a New College foul that gave the Bees a penalty kick to go up 2-0. Down two goals, the Banyans found the momentum needed to reignite their offense and get into scoring territory, drawing a foul to get on the board off a Consuelo Di Maria penalty kick.

Unfavorable weather plagued the women's soccer team during several of their games this season. That weather would literally strike again as a lightning delay caused a stoppage in the middle of the second half.

After a short delay, the second half would resume with the Banyans still down a goal. The SCAD defense held firm for the remaining 25 minutes of play before New College had one final chance to force a draw. Unfortunately, the final shot on goal for the Banyans would be their last of the game, as a Banyan shot flew inches over the crossbar to end the contest 2-1.

The New College Banyans will go on the road to face Ave Maria on September 21st.
