SARASOTA, Fla. – New College of Florida Women's Lacrosse is amped up to begin its 2025 inaugural season.
The New College of Florida Mighty Banyan women's lacrosse squad is almost ready to take the field. After a year of building both the framework of the program and camaraderie on the field, Women's Lacrosse head coach
Tom Flynn sat down with us to discuss the upcoming season and his vision for his program moving forward."
"It's been great so far." Started coach Flynn. "Obviously there are a lot of challenges that present themselves anytime you are trying to build something from the ground up, but It's been great getting to know the players, and I have seen a ton of positives both on the field and off the field with our group."
This season, the Banyans will be competing for the first time in the NAIA's Sun Conference, which stands as one of the country's most competitive and prestigious conferences for women's lacrosse. We had the opportunity to ask Coach Flynn for his outlook on the season and standing within the conference.
"The biggest thing for us this season is going to be gaining experience. We are a freshman-heavy team, which leaves us with a ton of room for growth moving forward. We have a formidable schedule within the conference, which will allow our group to play the best competition possible as we look to develop our identity."
The final question Coach Flynn touched on regarded the development of the team's culture.
"The biggest thing for us is learning how to communicate and work together both on the field and in the classroom. One of the best things about college athletics and playing on a team is that you have the opportunity to develop valuable skills in various areas. I think the biggest touch point in our first season is going to be our communication, whether that's how we address one another on the field or how we discuss our program and building points moving forward. This group has a very unique opportunity to build something they can be proud of. This is a first-year program, so there is no basis to move off of. This group of players will need to work together and build the culture and program we desire, and so far, I've only seen positive things with this group. I know they will work together to build this program into the best it can be."
New College Women's Lacrosse inaugural debut is just one month away, with the Banyans making their debut in Georgia on February 15
th when they play Truett McConnell.
