MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - Women's Basketball falls to Bobcats 58-77
The Mighty Banyans lost 77-58 in South Beach to St. Thomas University.
The Banyans got off to a rocky start out of the gates, missing their first seven shots and fell down early 6-0. After a layup made by the Banyans' scoring leader
Sierra Moore, the lead for the Bobcats only grew and saw themselves up 20-9 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Moore picked up her first assist of the game, showed her range as she buried a three-pointer, and added a field goal on top. However, behind 5 Banyan turnovers, the Lady Banyans couldn't close the gap finding themselves in a 20 point hole going into the half.
The third quarter saw the Banyans work to try and fight back from downtown, seeing a stretch where
Sania Thomas,
Camila Zbynski, and
Gwen Tsoukalas hit three-pointers. All five Banyan starters were able to put points on the board in the third quarter. However, with St. Thomas shooting 61% in the quarter, the Banyans failed to gain any ground.
The Banyans had their best quarter of the game in the fourth, scoring 24 points behind 8 points from
Carson Defries and 6 points from
Halle Shelt and
Sania Thomas. Thomas and Defries also dished out 2 assists each in the fourth quarter.
Sierra Moore finished as the Banyans' leading scorer and rebounder with 17 points and 14 rebounds with
Camila Zbynski dishing out 3 assists.\
The Banyans host Ave Maria University at Hal Chasey Gym in Bradenton, Florida next Wednesday, January 29.
