BRUNSWICK, GA. – New College Women's Basketball resumes conference play with a trip to Coastal Georgia.
New College Women's Basketball got the evening started with a match up against an 8-5 Coastal Georgia squad in their second conference match up of the New Year.
Both teams excelled on the defensive side of the floor in the first quarter, showcasing high energy and effectiveness in the period.
The teams scored a combined 15 points in the frame on below 20% shooting from the field, taking both teams into the 1
st quarter break with an emphasis on improving their offensive efficiency.
New College's offense improved in the second period. The Banyans doubled their first-quarter total, scoring 12 points on improved efficiency. The Banyans found plenty of success from beyond the three-point line in the second quarter, as the team shot an impressive 40% from three in the quarter.
Even with New College's offensive improvements, they still headed into the half with work to do.
The third quarter saw more offensive struggles on New College's part. The Banyans matched their first-quarter total, scoring 6 points in a slow period.
The Mariners continued to apply pressure, matching the Banyan's defensive intensity and finding offense success, as they outscored the Banyans in each of the first three quarters to head into the fourth with the lead.
The Banyans finally found their flow in the fourth. The squad erupted for 16 points in the quarter, converting on 53% of their field goal attempts.
Sierra Moore had a great quarter, scoring 10 points on 5-7 shooting from the floor.
Even with the Banyans fourth quarter success, they were unable to come away with a victory, ultimately falling to a talented Coastal Georgia squad 53-40.
Sierra Moore led the Banyans on the night, recording a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Gwen Tsoukalas also finished in double figures, scoring 10 points and grabbing 3 rebounds.
Sania Thomas,
Camila Zbynski, and
Garneisha Love combined for 18 points to round out the scoring for the Banyans.
The Banyans have a quick turnaround, as they prepare for a match up with Southeastern University on Saturday.
