NCF Men's Soccer To Host Florida Memorial In First-Ever Sun Conference Tournament Game

SARASOTA, Fla. - NCF Men's Soccer (13-3-1, 5-3-0) will make program history Wednesday when it welcomes Florida Memorial (7-7-3, 4-3-1) to the NCF Bayfront at 3 p.m. EST for the program's first-ever Sun Conference Tournament game, as the two teams will meet in Quarterfinals action.

After posting a 5-3-0 conference record, NCF is the No. 4 seed in the Sun Conference Tournament, while Florida Memorial, which went 4-3-1 in conference play, enters as the No. 5 seed. The winner of Wednesday's match will take on top-seeded Keiser at 11 a.m. Saturday in West Palm Beach.

NCF and Florida Memorial met twice in the regular season, with the Mighty Banyans outscoring the Lions 10-0 in those two contests. NCF beat FMU 4-0 in Miami Gardens in a Sept. 6 non-conference match and then defeated the Lions 6-0 on Senior Day at the NCF Bayfront on Oct. 22.

  • In its first season under head coach Cesar Markovic, NCF posted an outstanding 13-3-1 overall record and went 5-3 in Sun Conference play. It outscored opponents 59-19, converted on 51.2% of its shots on goal and logged 29 more corner kicks than its opponents.
  • NCF's 59 team goals lead the Sun Conference and rank 10th most in the NAIA.
  • Freshman first-team All Sun Conference selection and Sun Conference Freshman Of The Year Cameron Johnson finished the regular season as NCF's leader in goals with 14, followed by sophomore second-team All Sun Conference selection Ducamel Jeannestin with 13 and senior second-team All Sun Conference selection Fabien Donal with eight. In total, 17 different Mighty Banyans scored goals on the season.
  • Johnson, second-team All Sun Conference selection Sebastian Pedraza and sophomore Matthew Dynarski finished tied with a team-leading five goals, while in net, senior second-team All Sun Conference selection Mathis Leveque posted a 12-3-1 record, recording 70 saves and allowing 17 goals.
  • Florida Memorial's 4-3-1 Sun Conference record saw the Lions defeat Warner, Webber, Ave Maria and SCAD Savannah, lose to Keiser, St. Thomas and NCF and draw with Southeastern.
  • The Lions are coached by David Martinez, led in goals (9) and assists (5) by first-team All Sun Conference selection Nasreddine Benbella, while goaltender Ricardo Delgado Villalobos has made 69 saves, saving 64.5% of shots faced.
  • Elsewhere in the Sun Conference tournament, No. 6 seeded Southeastern will visit No. 3-seeded SCAD Savannah in Quarterfinals play Wednesday at 7 p.m. with the winner set to take on No. 2-seeded St. Thomas in Miami Gardens Saturday.
