SARASOTA, Fla. - Landen Morrison Powers New College Past Cornerstone (MI)
New College of Florida picked up a dominant 10-0 victory at the RussMatt Invitational on Tuesday, defeating Cornerstone University (MI) behind a stellar offensive performance from Landen Morrison and a shutdown outing on the mound by Johan Monrroy.
The win was the Mighty Banyans third straight, outscoring their opponents 27-2 over the course of those three games.
Morrison led the way at the plate, finishing just a single shy of the cycle. The slugger collected three hits, including a towering home run, a triple, and a double, driving in key runs to propel the New College offense. His explosive bat set the tone early and provided plenty of run support for Monrroy, who was in command from the first pitch.
On the mound, Monrroy delivered a gem, throwing six and 2/3 scoreless innings. He kept the Cornerstone lineup off balance with pinpoint control and effective pitch sequencing, racking up outs and minimizing threats throughout his outing. His performance anchored a strong defensive effort that kept the opposition from mounting any serious rally.
With the win, New College builds momentum heading into their next matchup at the RussMatt Invitational. They return to action on Friday at 2:00 P.M. ET. against Mount Vernon Nazarene University, looking to continue their strong showing in the tournament.
