BRADENTON, Fla - New College won the final game of today's doubleheader at home against the (#4) Southeastern University Fire 11-8 to split with them 2-2 in the series.
The doubleheader came on the heels of a 1-1 outing against the Fire the previous day, where New College got blown out 5-20 in the first game and snuck out a 7-6 win in the second. The seesaw matchup would continue into the second day of games when the Fire opened up the afternoon with a dominant 18-8 win. Two incredibly lopsided games might have been an indicator of an ugly fourth game in favor of the ranked away team, but the result was quite the opposite.
The Banyans struck first in the opening inning, taking a four run lead. It was a lead the Banyans would refuse to relinquish. New College continued to separate from their opponent all the way till the ninth inning, where the home team held a substantial 11-3 lead. Things got exciting at the top of the ninth as the Fire roared their way back, mounting an offensive attack that saw them score five runs before the Banyans shut the door on the potential comeback.Â
Landon Morrison was the stat leader in runs with three and tied for the lead in hits with two. Behind Morrison was
Patrick Fink with two runs, two hits, and one RBI. Morrison and
Michael Magliocca were responsible for the two home runs on the day.
Following the 2-2 split series, the Banyans will stay at home to play Webber International University on Friday, April 4th.Â
