NCF Baseball Splits Saturday Doubleheader With Fort Lauderdale

BRADNETON, Fla. - NCF Baseball split a seven-inning doubleheader with Fort Lauderdale at IMG Academy Saturday, dropping Game 1 6-1 and then bouncing back to win Game 2 10-1.

Game 1

The Mighty Banyans were unable to crawl out of an early Game 1 hole as the Eagles plated three in the top of the first and never looked back.

NCF scored its lone run of the game in the bottom of the fourth thanks to an RBI triple from Fernando Espinal, but otherwise were held to just four hits and one run in the contest.

Out of the bullpen, Coe Powell (0.2 innings) and Diego Allen (1.0 innings) each did not allow a run.
Game 2

Game 2 saw NCF flip the script on the Eagles as it scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to go up 2-0 and then in the bottom of the fifth scored six runs, highlighted by a bases-clearing double from Andrew Merchant to go up 8-0.

RBI doubles from Espinal and Luka Dodig gave NCF all the insurance it would need in the bottom of the sixth.

On the mound, Owen McKinley moved to 2-0 on the season as he tossed 6.0 innings of one-run ball, striking out eight.
Up Next: The Mighty Banyans and Eagles will play two more seven-inning contests beginning at Noon EST Sunday.
