SARASOTA, Fla. - NCF Softball saw its 10-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday as it dropped a pair of extra-inning thrillers to Montreat at home, losing Game 1 5-3 in nine innings and Game 2 5-4 in eight innings.
The matchup featured head coach Corbin Weeks going against his former team as the first-year leader of the Mighty Banyans spent the 2024 and 2025 seasons as the head coach at Montreat.
Game 1
NCF found itself in a 2-0 hole in Game 1 after Montreat's Lauren Davis hit a pair of solo home runs.
In the bottom of the sixth, NCF would pull even as
Karyna Lewis ripped an RBI double and
Jamie Reinhardt delivered a game-tying single.
After both teams failed to score in the seventh, the game went to extras, where both teams cashed in, scoring one in the eighth, but in the top of the ninth, Davis delivered yet again for Montreat, slugging a two-run home run to make it 5-3.
NCF would load the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but were unable to pull even as
Sydney Rich and
Rylie Harwood both flew out on hard-hit balls in the outfield to end the game.
Game 2
Montreat jumped out to a 4-0 lead in Game 2 but just as it did in Game 1, the Mighty Banyans punched back as in the bottom of the sixth,
Jill Halas ripped an RBI single and ripped a two-run double to make it 4-3 and in the bottom of the seventh Thomason plated
Kelsey Harper on a sac-fly to tie the game at 4-4 forcing extra innings.
In the top of the eighth, Montreat was able to score the placed runner on second after a two-out error on a ground ball.
The bottom half of the frame saw the Mighty Banyans retire in order to allow Montreat to earn another extra-inning victory.
Up Next: NCF will welcome No. 10 ranked Southeastern to campus Friday for the start of a three-game weekend series. Game 1 is scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m. EST.
