SARASOTA, Fla. - NCF Softball earned a three-game series sweep of Warner over the weekend to move back to 10 games over .500 at 21-11 overall and back to .500 in Sun Conference play at 6-6.
The Mighty Banynas' surpassed the 20-win mark for the first time in school history with its Game 2 victory.
Game 1
New College of Florida opened the series with a 6-4 win on Friday afternoon.
Warner struck first in the opening inning, but New College answered immediately as
Rylie Harwood delivered a sacrifice fly to score
Karyna Lewis and even the game at 1-1.
The Royals regained the lead with two runs in the third inning and held a 3-1 advantage into the sixth before the Banyans surged ahead.
Sydney Rich started the rally with a solo home run.
Tori Goodell followed with an RBI single to tie the game, and
Kelsey Harper gave New College the lead with an RBI double.
Madison Garcia capped the inning with a two-run home run to push the lead to 6-3.
Warner added a run in the seventh, but New College held on to secure the win.
Dani Ebert earned the win in relief, tossing four innings and allowing one run while striking out two Royals.
Game 2
Warner opened the scoring in the first inning, but New College answered in the bottom half. Lewis came home on an error by the catcher to tie the game, and Goodell followed with an RBI single to score
Samantha Suarez and give the Banyans a 2-1 lead.
The Royals evened the score in the second, but New College moved back in front in the third when
Rylie Harwood scored on another Warner error.
NCF added to the lead in the fourth as Suarez drove in
Avery Arrington with a groundout, then Harwood opened the fifth with a solo home run to make it 5-2.
Warner pulled back within a run in the sixth on a two-run home run from Meagan Bruns, but New College answered in the bottom half. Suarez delivered a sacrifice fly to score
Jill Halas and push the lead back to 6-4.
Ebert earned the win in relief, striking out seven over 5.2 innings while allowing two runs.
Game 3
NCF completed the sweep with an 11-3 run-rule shortened win Saturday afternoon.
Warner opened the scoring in the second inning, but New College responded with a big third inning.
Mackenzie Mathers delivered a pinch-hit three-run home run to give the Banyans the lead.
New College continued to build the lead across the middle innings.
Harper scored on a passed ball in the fourth, and
Gabriela Trinoski and
Cheyenne Waddell each drove in runs in the fifth to extend the advantage.
Warner pushed across two runs in the sixth, but the Banyans answered immediately. Mathers drove in a run on a fielder's choice, and Trinoski sent the fans home early with a three-run walk-off double in the bottom of the sixth.
Kendall Rubel earned the win in the circle, allowing three runs over 5.1 innings in which she struck out three.
Up Next: The Mighty Banynas will travel to West Palm Beach for a weekend series at No. 11 Keiser starting next Friday.
