Sarasota, Fla. - NCF Women's Lacrosse held its own against NCAA DIII foe New England College Wednesday at home but fell short of an upset victory, falling 19-11.
NCF fell behind 8-5 after one quarter of play but outscored the Pilgrims 3-2 in the second to cut the lead to 10-5 at halftime.
The second half saw New England outscore the Mighty Banyans 5-2 in the third and 4-1 in the fourth to leave Sarasota victorious.
Makayla Hardware scored five goals in the loss, while
Bella Bradshaw and
Hannah Picott each recorded a hat-trick with three goals.
Baylie Dow had a team-high four assists for New College,
Airiana Jerz picked up a team-high six ground balls, and Hardware posted a team-high three draw controls.
In net,
Abbigail Hardaker made eight saves.
NCF is now 1-4 on the season with the loss and will return to action when it plays the third game of its five-game homestand next Tuesday against Saint Mary's College.
