SARASOTA, Fla. - New College of Florida Men's Soccer closed its non-conference schedule with an 11-0 victory over South Florida Bible College Tuesday afternoon at Bayfront Field.
The Mighty Banyans (2-3-2) received goals from eight different players, including the first career goals for David Hospedales, Juan Palomino, Jonas Noury and Joao Pedro Brito. Micah Nelson also scored his first goal as a Mighty Banyan.
Angel Frias, Hospedales and Palomino each scored twice as NCF finished with a 36-3 advantage in shots and recorded its first shutout of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
NCF opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Cameron Johnson found Nelson, who converted the opportunity for his first goal as a Mighty Banyan.
Frias doubled the advantage just over three minutes later, scoring off an assist from Dante Pinoargote. The junior struck again at the 16:15 mark, converting a pass from Johnson and Nelson to give NCF a 3-0 lead.
The Mighty Banyans made a full lineup change in the 24th minute, and the new group quickly continued the scoring.
Juan Gomez-Cuetara found Hospedales in the 25th minute for the freshman's first career goal. Peter Simmons scored off an assist from Jose Araya in the 34th before Gomez-Cuetara set up Noury's first career goal at the 38:37 mark.
NCF entered halftime with a 6-0 advantage after outshooting the Rams 23-2 during the opening period.
Hospedales needed just 30 seconds after halftime to score his second goal of the afternoon.
Palomino recorded his first career goal in the 54th minute before scoring again off an assist from Araya at the 66:53 mark.
Andre Cabral converted a penalty kick in the 77th minute to extend the advantage to 10-0.
Brito closed the scoring in the 87th minute, converting a pass from Oliver Wuest for his first career goal.
Henrique Furlan and Cooper Kambak combined for the shutout, with each goalkeeper recording one save.
THE TURNING POINT
NCF took complete control by scoring three times over a 5:12 stretch during the opening half.
Nelson opened the scoring at the 11:03 mark before Frias added goals in the 15th and 17th minutes.
The early scoring run gave the Mighty Banyans a 3-0 advantage and started an afternoon that featured eight different NCF goal scorers.
