Alex Sommers joined the New College of Florida men's basketball coaching staff in 2025, bringing a diverse coaching background with experience at the high school and collegiate levels across the state of Florida.
Prior to New College, Sommers spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Bradenton Christian School from 2021-25. He also served as an assistant coach at Saint Vincent College during the 2020-21 season. Earlier in his coaching career, Sommers held assistant coaching positions at Sarasota Christian School, Sarasota High School, Cape Coral High School, Florida Gateway College, and State College of Florida, gaining experience in player development, recruiting, scouting, and program operations.
At New College, Sommers oversees the program's analytics, film breakdown, and opponent scouting while assisting with recruiting, player development, and game preparation. His analytical approach and attention to detail play a critical role in the team's preparation and decision-making throughout the season.
Sommers earned his bachelor's degree from the University of South Florida.
