HIALEAH, Fla - The Mighty Banyan's men's soccer team dropped a competitive match 3-0 to the NAIA's No. 14 ranked Florida National University on Saturday.
A lightning delay forced both teams back into the locker rooms after just 8 minutes of play. Both teams came back onto the field and resumed play after 30 minutes.
The Banyans (3-2-0) handled the attacking prowess of the Conquistadors (7-1-2) for most of the half. Florida National capitalized on a header in the 36th minute, giving the Conquistadors a 1-0 lead heading into the half.
FNU would continue their aggressiveness on the offensive end, scoring their second goal nine seconds into the second half.
NCF continued to compete behind goalie Matthew Wilcox, who recorded 10 saves during the match.
FNU found another goal in the 78th minute, propelling the Conquistadors to a 3-0 victory.
Despite the loss, NCF Head Coach Glodi Konga acknowledged the heart and effort displayed by the Banyans. "We faced a tough challenge head on, exhibiting commendable teamwork and defensive tenacity. Moving forward, we'll refine our offensive strategies and work on capitalizing on key opportunities to bounce back stronger in the next game."
The Banyans look forward to Oct. 6, when they host Trinity Baptist at RL Taylor Center.
