NCF LOSES TOUGH MATCHUP AGAINST FLORIDA MEMORIAL

SARASOTA, Fla. - The New College of Florida Mighty Banyans lost a physical matchup against undefeated Florida Memorial.

The Mighty Banyans entered the game looking to rebound after a difficult loss to a talented Southeastern squad. Florida Memorial offered a similar challenge, which forced the Banyans to bring the energy early.

Jordan Clark knocked down a three point jump shot to open the scoring. Jack Scott scored off a nice drop off from Quincy Snoddy Jr, and the Banyans were off to a good start.

Both teams went back and forth on the offensive end, scoring in the lane and knocking down the occasional deep three.

Flawless ball movement in transition led to a big layup from Schuyler Pimentel, forcing the Lions to call a timeout and keeping the Banyans in it with a score of 18-20.

Florida Memorial offense took off in the last 10 minutes of the half. They jumped on the Banyans following the timeout, going on a 9-0 run. After a Malachi Pearson layup, they again went on another run, extending their lead to 19 with six minutes remaining.

The Banyans got the game back into single digits following a Zach Close free throw, but the Lions again found their rhythm, taking a 54-38 lead into the half.

The Lion's defense stood out to start the second half. The Banyans offense was held scoreless until Shawn Lefresne knocked down a mid-range jumper at the 16 minute mark.

The Mighty Banyan offense struggled in the second half, connecting on 31.7% of the shots from the field. The defensive end was also tough, with the Banyans allowing 23 rebounds to their 7 in the second half.

New College's struggles ultimately were too great to overcome, losing the physical matchup 98-72.

Schuyler Pimentel had another impressive performance off the bench, leading the team with 19 points on an ultra-efficient 8-12 from the field and 3-3 from downtown.
