Box Score SARASOTA, Fla. - The New College of Florida Mighty Banyans struggled in their 39-77 loss to Southeastern University on Tuesday.
The Banyans traveled to Lakeland fresh off of a tough loss to a strong Florida Memorial Squad. The Banyans and Fire recently played on Saturday Nov. 18, where the Fire beat the Mighty Banyans 80-62.
New College showed sign's of fatigue to begin the ball game. The Banyans missed their first eight shots of the half, and found themselves down 13-0 early.
Schuyler Pimentel broke the drought with a steal and fast-break dunk for the Banyan's first bucket.
Quincy Snoddy Jr knocked down a 15 foot jump-shot following a pair of free throws from
Malachi Pearson, bringing the Banyan's back within 15. Snoddy Jr knocked down his first three of the night a couple possossions later, giving him seven points on the half.
The Banyan offense struggled to gain momentum for the entirety of the opening half, trailing Southeastern 40-18 at the break.
The second half was much of the same for the Banyan's. Snoddy Jr knocked down his second three of the afternoon to open the scoring.
Jack Scott and
Schuyler Pimentel both added layups at the fifteen minute mark.
Malachi Pearson connected on a three point shot to bring the Banyans total to 31. They still trailed the Fire by 27 points with nine minutes remaining.
The Banyans offense fell flat in the final nine minutes of action, scoring 8 points on 4-24 shooting from the field.
Southeastern continued their stellar play, connecting on 40% of their second half attempts and grabbing 31 rebounds to the Banyans 10.
Southeastern maintained control of the game to the buzzer, winning 77-39 and improving to 4-3 on the season.
The Banyans (1-7) have struggled to find their flow, losing their last four games.
Quincy Snoddy Jr led the Banyan's in the scoring category, with 7 points on the afternoon.
Jordan Clark and
Malachi Pearson both grabbed 4 rebounds, and
Schuyler Pimentel shot 50% from the field and scored 6 points.
The Mighty Banyan's are back in action on Sat. Dec. 2., when they travel to St. Augustine, GA for an exhibition match with Flagler College.
