GREENVILLE, Sc. - The New College of Florida Mighty Banyans men's basketball team lost 78-81 in a highly competitive match up against the Bruins of Bob Jones University.
The Banyans (4-13) traveled to Greenville on the heels of a heartbreaking loss to Paine College on Friday.
The Banyan's and Bruins both came out the gates firing on the offensive end. New College, led by
Zach Close's 9 points, knocked down over 50% of their first half jumpers.
Schuyler Pimentel and
Shawn Lefresne both added 8 points, pacing New College midway through the half.
Bob Jones also found their stride offensively, knocking down 54% of their shots at taking a 7 point lead going into the break.
New College continued their streak of stellar second half play. The Banyans shot over 50% from the field, and 71% from the free throw line. The Banyans also improved on the defensive end. Led by
Jack Scott, NCF out rebounded the Bruins 23-10 in the second frame.
Jordan Clark had a good second half, scoring 13 points on 60% shooting from the field.
The Banyan's second half offense still wasn't enough to overcome the Bruins, with Bob Jones holding on to win 81-78.
The Banyans were led by
Jordan Clark and
Schuyler Pimentel, who both had 18 points on efficient shooting splits.
Jack Scott tallied his second double-double in a row, with 10 points and 19 rebounds.
Shawn Lefresne and
Zach Close also scored in double figures.
The Mighty Banyans are back in action on Wed. Jan. 24 at home against Atlantis University.
