SARASOTA, Fla. - The New College of Florida Men's Basketball team impressed on the defensive end in their 85-71 win over Atlantis University.
The Mighty Banyan's (5-13) were victorious in their previous game against Atlantis back in December. New College needed a repeat win over the Atlantians to end their two game skid, and get back to winning ways,
The Banyan's offense was yet again impressive in the first half of play.
Shawn Lefresne ignited the offense with back-to-back threes from the top of the key. Guard
Schuyler Pimentel threw down a transition slam minutes later, sparking the student section and forcing the Atlantians to call timeout.
The New College offense continued to score effortlessly. The Banyan's connected on 19 of their 34 shots from the field, as well as hitting 40% of their threes. Their defense also played well in the first half. The Banyan's forced eight Atlantis turnovers, and held the Atlantians to 42% shooting in the half.
Jack Scott and
Schuyler Pimentel co-led the Banyan's with 8 points each in the first half.
Shawn Lefresne,
Zach Close, and
Giovanni Toscanini all played big roles on both ends in the half, helping the Banyans go into the break with a 43-34 lead.
The first ten minutes of the second half were tightly contested. The Atlantians started off the half on a big run, taking a 4 point lead after eight minutes. A quick timeout from head coach
Andrew Wingreen helped the Banyan's regroup and go on another big run.
Jack Scott,
Schuyler Pimentel, and
Giovanni Toscanini all scored 8 points in the half.
Jordan Clark recorded 6 assists in the second frame, bringing his total to 8 on the night.
The New College run helped them pull away in the final minutes, winning the game 85-71.

Jordan Clark had an impressive all around game, posting 6 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists.
The Mighty Banyan's are back in action on Sat. Jan. 27, when they travel to Jacksonville, Fl to face off against Trinity Baptist College.
