AVE MARIA, Fla. – New College women's basketball picks up their second win of the season in a 59-50 victory over Kuyper College.
The Mighty Banyan women's basketball team picked up their second win of the season in a defensive showdown with a tough Kuyper College squad.
The Banyans got out to an early lead in the first quarter.
Sierra Moore was impressive in the opening frame. Moore scored a team-leading 7 first-quarter points on an impressive 75% shooting from the field. Moore also grabbed 5 rebounds and knocked down her only three-point attempt of the quarter.
The Banyans continued to fight in the second quarter. The Banyans hung with Kuyper, as they went on a run to bring the game within one possession. Both teams played well to end the half, entering the break with the score tied at 23.
The Banyans were yet again impressive in the third quarter.
Sierra Moore continued her offensive dominance, scoring 9 third-quarter points on 4-5 shooting from the field and 1-1 shooting from beyond the arc.
The Banyans closed the game out with their best period of the afternoon. New College scored a game-high 19 points in the final quarter. The Banyans were critical from the free throw line and from deep, shooting 85% and 43% respectively.
The Banyans 59-50 win marks their second win of the season.
Sierra Moore was excellent, recording a double-double and scoring a team-high 20 points.
Carson Defries scored 11 points and played excellent defensively, as she finished the game with a team-high 5 steals.
Gwen Tsoukalas and
Camila Zbynski both added 9 points.
The Banyans will be back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 6 for a matchup against Trinity College.
