BRADENTON, Fla, - New College men's basketball secured a 86-75 home victory against the Florida National University Conquistadors.
After a lengthy Thanksgiving break, the 6-3 Banyans stayed home to face the Conquistadors, a team that was 1-9 heading into the contest and riding a two game losing streak. Despite Florida National's shortcomings, they managed to keep things close with New College entering halftime only down 37-30.
Charlie Yoder was the story of the first half for the Banyans, as he put up 10 points before the break. Yoder would build upon his dominant performance in the second half scoring 15 additional points. Those points would aid the Banyans as they extended their lead to achieve a nine point victory.Â
Despite leading for the majority of the game, the statline tells a different story as New College was outgained in points off turnovers (7-6) and second chance points (15-10). Still, the Banyans found a way to their seventh win of the year on the back of some timely defensive plays, Yoder leading his team on the other side of the ball with eight rebounds. Behind the senior in points scored was
Jack Scott, who scored 13 points while going 3-5 on three pointers, and
Diego Eslava, who put up 12.Â
Following the win, the Banyans return to action on Friday, December 6th, in an exhibition match against Florida International University.Â
