MIAMI, Fla. – Mighty Banyans lose nail-biter to Division 1 Florida International University.
Following a win over Florida National on Wednesday the Banyans made their first trip to Miami of the season to match up with Division 1 opponent Florida International in an exhibition game. The Banyans put on a fantastic performance, matching the Panthers blow for blow up to the final whistle.
The Banyans were able to hang with the size of the Panthers by putting on their best defensive performance of the season in the narrow defeat. The Banyans held Florida International to an ice-cold 39.2% shooting from the field and 11.1% from beyond the arc in the first half.
Offensively, the Banyans matched the Lions point for point.
Charlie Yoder had an excellent first half, as he finished with his third consecutive 20+ point performance.
Jordan Clark and
Diego Eslava were also impressive on the night, combining for 30 points and showcasing their remarkable touch and shooting from beyond the three-point line.
The Banyans stellar first half had them in front heading to the break.
The Banyans continued to impress in the second half. While the Panthers improved their offense in the second frame, the Banyans continued to stay level. New College matched the Panthers to the end, even leading the game with just under 4 minutes remaining.
Ultimately, the Panthers retook their lead and extended it as the Banyans fouled in the final moments.
Charlie Yoder led the Banyans with another 20-point outing.
Jordan Clark finished with 14 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists.
Diego Eslava was incredible from beyond the arc, knocking down 4 of his 17 attempts en route to 16 points.
The Banyans are back in action on Saturday, Dec 14 for a match-up against No. 14 Huntington.
