SARASOTA, Fla. - The Mighty Banyans baseball lost in 13-10 in an offensive shootout against the University of Fort Lauderdale.
Anthony Barrios got off to a strong start in game one. Barrios allowed no runs in the first inning and recording a strikeout.
A scoreless bottom of the first put Barrios up again in the second. A single and error scored two Eagle runs, putting the Banyans in an early deficit. Barrios forced a pop-up to end the inning.
Matthew Merk drove in the first run for NCF. Merk drove a single to left field, bringing home
Chris Bradburn.
The New College offense went on a run in the fourth inning.
Jesus Fortis connected on a two RBI single to get the inning started. Brennan Peterson continued the scoring with an RBI double, giving New College the lead.
Jesus Fortis scored on an error from the eagle third basemen, putting the Banyans up 5-3.
The Banyans extended their lead in the sixth inning.

Fort Lauderdale briefly regained the lead in the seventh before a Matthew Garcia single tied the ball-game.
Fort Lauderdale went on another run in the top of the 9
th inning. The Eagles scored 5 runs and increased their hit total to 18. The Banyans were unable to come back in the ninth, scoring 3 more runs before ultimately falling 13-10.
John McIntosh had a good day at the plate in the designated hitter spot, collecting 2 hits in 5 plate appearances and driving in 2 runs.
Jesus Fortis tallied 1 hit on the night, scoring 2 runs and driving in 2.
Mathew Garcia recorded 2 hits with 1 run and 1 RBI.
The Banyans are back in action on Sat, March 30 for a double-header against Fort Lauderdale at IMG Academy.
