LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla - New College women's soccer fell to the Florida Memorial Lions in a narrow 3-2 defeat.
Following their most dominant performance of the season on the road against the Florida College Falcons, the Banyans went back home to face the 3-4 Lions.
The match got to a fast start as Florida Memorial put up a goal just five minutes into the first half. The Banyans were quick to respond with a goal off a set piece from
Consuelo Di Maria. Both offenses put up a goal within 10 minutes, but a quiet rest of the half led to a 1-1 score at halftime.
In the second half, the Banyans mounted an offensive attack that resulted in a goal from
Abigail Hansen, assisted by
Sofia Hernandez Cruz. The Lions bent the Banyan defense for the majority of the second half until it finally broke, allowing Florida Memorial to tie up the score with 20 minutes left to play. The two teams exchanged possessions until the Lions scored what would become the game winner with just over 10 minutes to play, resulting in a final score of 3-2.
Following the loss, the Banyans go back on the road to face the Florida College Falcons on Tuesday, October 1st.
