BANYANS PICK UP SECOND STRAIGHT CONFERENCE WIN OVER WARNER

BRADENTON, Fla. - Mighty Banyans pick up second straight Sun Conference victory over Warner.

The Lady Banyans picked up their second conference victory 87-81 in double overtime against the Warner Royals on Saturday.

Early in the match up, the Royals utilized their full court press to perfection forcing 8 turnovers and scoring 10 points off of those turnovers.

After a first half that saw the Royals maintain a 12-point advantage, the Banyans were able to settle down, cutting the deficit to 2 by the end of the 3rd quarter.

This scoring outburst was led by two three-pointers by Camilla Zbynski and one by Gwen Tsoukalas in the 3rd quarter.

After making it a 2-point game, the Banyans were able to keep pace with Warner through the 4th quarter and found themselves up 4 with just 47 seconds left in the game until Warner guard Courtney Logan scored 5 points in the waning seconds including two crucial free throws at the end of regulation to take the game to overtime.

In the first overtime, the Banyans found themselves neck and neck with a scrappy Warner team with Sierra Moore seeing most of the action in overtime scoring 3 of the Banyans' 8 points including her field goal with 13 seconds left that put the Banyans ahead 77-75.

However, it proved not enough for the first overtime as Warner tied the game on the next possession with a Courtney Logan layup to force a second overtime.

In that second overtime, it became clear that the Royals were running on fumes missing all 4 of their field goal attempts in the overtime, which allowed the Banyans to finally pull away behind a clutch three pointer by Halle Shelt.

Moore led all Banyans tonight with a double-double, recording 29 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists, and 10 makes at the charity stripe.

Tsoukalas was able to lead the Banyans in three-pointers, knocking down 7 of them.

The Banyans move to 2-5 in the Sun Conference and will continue conference play next Wednesday at St. Thomas University.
