NCF Women's Basketball led at halftime Saturday but could not quite finish off an upset on the road at RV Florida Memorial as the Mighty Banyans fell 63-53 to the defending Sun Conference Tournament Champions in Miami Gardens.
After falling behind by five after one quarter of play, NCF outscored the Lions 17-11 in the second quarter to take a 30-29 lead into halftime.
NCF opened the second half on a 5-0 run to go up 35-29, but the Lions outscored the Mighty Banyans 18-8 the remainder of the third quarter to take a 47-43 lead into the fourth, where FMU would outscore NCF 16-10 to avoid the upset.
Halle Shelt drilled five three's and led NCF with 17 points. She was joined in double figures by
CiCi Moore (13) andÂ
Sania Thomas (10).
Thomas led NCF with nine rebounds and also added a team-leading five steals, while Moore grabbed eight rebounds, picked up three steals, and recorded a block while also dishing a team-leading four assists.
With the loss, NCF is now 2-3 overall and 0-2 in Sun Conference play.
The Mighty Banyans will return home Tuesday to host Beacon College at 5 p.m. EST.
