BRADENTON, Fla - New College men and women's basketball end their regular season with double header losses against the St. Thomas University Bobcats.
The women's team fell in the first contest early, but a valiant combat effort nearly ended their day with a victory. At one point in the game New College was down 20 points, but a second half comprehensive performance brought them all the way back to a tie before falling once again in the fourth quarter. The match up would end with a 59-54 final score.Â
Sierra Moore was the leading scorer with 17 points, and Gwen Tsoukalas' 16 point performance put her right behind Moore.
While each period of the women's game favored a different side, the men's match up was neck and neck all the way through. The two teams exchanged blows in a game with playoff implications before the Bobcats dealt the winning strike with less than a minute on the clock. The Banyans would lose with a final score of 82-79.
Jordan Clark led the team in points with 23 points and 7 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Banyan men's basketball are still locked into a Sun Conference playoff match up as the 5th seed. They will try to upset the home team as New College goes on the road to face Southeastern University in their first playoff appearance in program history on February 25th.
