SARASOTA, Fla. - New College of Florida men's and women's tennis has announced their first three commits in program history.
New College of Florida Tennis is excited to welcome Mateo Barcia, Madeleine Chellas, and Guy Dalzell to the program as the first commits in New College Tennis history. New College of Florida Head Tennis Coach Jeff Maren detailed the three acquisitions below, highlighting their talents and what they will bring to the program.
Matteo Barcia
Matteo is from Italy, but has also lived and competed in places like Colombia, Peru, Spain, and California. His international experience has enabled him to improve his problem-solving skills and to deal with various adverse situations. Matteo has been playing tennis since the age of 8, and spends time every day improving his craft. He is also an excellent student and is looking forward to the challenge of becoming a student-athlete at NCF!
Quote from Coach Maren:
"Matteo has exemplified incredible character and work ethic, to go along with his natural tennis skills! We have no doubt that he will be an impact player for our inaugural program! As we begin our first team, we want players who desire to be pioneers and who are capable of creating a solid foundation for the future of our Banyans tennis team! We believe that Matteo fits perfectly into our initial foundational plans!"
Madeleine Chellas
Madeleine is a 3-star recruit from Miami, Florida. She comes from a tennis family, as her father, Mike Chellas, was an outstanding player and current tennis coach. She is also an outstanding student and has plans to study Marine Biology.
Quote from Coach Maren:
"Madz is what we call an O.K.G = our kind of girl! She fits perfectly into the type of culture we want to create during our first year! We want players who exhibit faith and belief in themselves and their team; who are able to remain focused on the task at hand; and who are capable of giving maximum effort at all times. Madz has shown that she can do all of these things, and so we are supremely confident that she will help us create a solid foundation for our program!"
Guy Dalzell
Guy is from Bradenton, Florida and is a 3-star recruit. He comes from a strong tennis family, as both his mother (Lihini) and father (Mark) were outstanding players, and his father has been his primary coach. Guy is also looking forward to excelling in the classroom as well! His strong work ethic will be greatly utilized as he strives to be a top student-athlete.
Quote from Coach Maren:
"Guy is exactly who we hoped to find when looking at recruits in the Sarasota/Bradenton area! He has a desire to help create a program that NCF and the local community can be proud of! In addition, his character, talent, dedication to his craft, and competitive spirit, will help us build a strong foundation for our new team!"
