NCF Women's Soccer fell 4-1 in Miami Gardens to St. Thomas on Tuesday. The Banyans found the back of the net for the second time this season but were unable to come away with the victory.
The Bobcats struck first when Sophie Saunders scored in the 8th minute to make it 1-0. By halftime, STU had doubled its lead as Saunders netted her second goal in the 31st minute.
NCF cut into the deficit early in the second half, as Consuelo Di Maria converted a penalty kick to make it 2-1 marking the Banyans' second goal of the season and Di Maria's first.Â
From there, it was all Bobcats. Julia Ezcurra scored in the 62nd and 69th minutes to give STU the cushion it needed to put the match away.
Freshman goalkeeper Avaya Wright got the start for NCF and allowed two goals, while sophomore Maria Schatzl came on in relief, making a career-high eight saves but also conceding two goals.
The loss does not count toward NCF's Sun Conference record. The Banyans will face St. Thomas again on Oct. 15 in a conference matchup.
NCF (1-6-0, 0-0) will return to action Friday when it hosts No. 1 ranked Keiser at the NCF Bayfront Field. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. EST.
